Since our inception in 1924 at the Longwood Mechanics Hall, Longwood Theatre Productions has been a vibrant beacon of creativity and community spirit. Our roots run deep in the heart of Longwood, where we first took the stage, forging a strong connection with our local audience. Over the decades, our journey has taken us from the intimate Venn Street Arts Centre in 1987 to the grand Lawrence Batley Theatre (LBT) in 1994. Notably, we were the inaugural amateur operatic group to grace the LBT stage, debuting with “The Pirates of Penzance” in its opening year.
In 2017, we returned to our original home at the Mechanics Hall, only to be propelled back to the refurbished LBT in 2021, thanks to the extraordinary fundraising efforts of our dedicated members. This triumphant return was marked by our stirring rendition of “Into The Woods,” a significant comeback following the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
With over 91 productions to our name, Longwood Theatre Productions is truly a family affair. Generations have tread our boards and worked behind the scenes, sharing their passion and continuing our legacy of enchanting performances.
We invite you to join our story. Whether you’re looking to step into the spotlight or support us from the wings, there’s a place for you here. Connect with us through social media, contact a society member directly, or visit our ‘Get Involved’ page to learn more.
Thank you to every one of you for supporting us—your enthusiasm keeps the magic of amateur theatre alive!
